Egyptian Colloquial Arabic

If your goal is to simply speak with native arab speakers then the recommendation is to learn colloquial or a spoken dialect. The most popular dialect by far is Egyptian Arabic or ‘Ammiya’. Egyptian Arabic is understood by almost all of the 300+ million Arabic speakers around the world, mainly due to the popularity of Egyptian cinema and media. It has many similar features to Modern Standard Arabic and it is not difficult to learn, either at the beginning of your arabic learning or after you’ve learnt the MSA. Based in Egypt we are able to offer a specialised course for learning Egyptian Arabic, by our qualified tutors. The course is suitable for absolute beginners and starts off with the basics, learning how to greet and interact in the language.

How We Work?

We are on a mission of helping as many students as possible learn the Arabic language in the most optimal way, leveraging all available resources. We’ve started on this mission a bit differently to most other arabic learning websites – see how we work.

For this Egyptian Arabic course (and all other courses) we follow the same approach. We first talk to our students to determine:

  1. Where they are in their language proficiency,
  2. What they want to achieve and then devise the
  3. How – by putting together a customised learning plan.

One of the key components of the learning plan is the chosen curriculum (see below) as well as an Egyptian tutor.

Our Curriculum Books

Egyptian is a very practical language and learning it involves listening, speaking and ideally immersing yourself in the right environment.

1. Kallimni ‘Arabi Book Series

This is our go to book series for teaching Egyptian Arabic. There are three main books with the first one catering for beginners – Kallimni ‘Arabi Bishweesh. Following this book are the intermediate and upper intermediate versions. The books follow a functional approach to create a bright, innovative set of coursebooks for the study of Egyptian colloquial Arabic and are designed according to the ACTFL (American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages) guidelines for teaching Arabic as a foreign language.

2. Kalaam Gamiil

Based on the cumulative experience of three leading teachers of Arabic as a foreign language, Kalaam Gamiil builds and develops communicative skills in Egyptian Colloquial Arabic, along parallel tracks of vocabulary and grammar. It is designed for students who have reached an intermediate level of Modern Standard Arabic and are now ready to branch out into a major spoken dialect.

Each of these curriculums are supported by additional resources from our team.

Why Arabic8020?

Our strength and passion is in teaching classical arabic to students across the world. We do this in the most optimal way.

Personalised Learning Plans

We believe no two students are the same. It is for this reason we speak with students, getting all the key information and then set personalised learning plans for each student.

Highly Qualified Tutors

All our tutors are hand picked not just for their qualifications, teaching experience but also on their passion for teaching students and embracing our core principles. We have both male and female tutors available at different time zones for online learning.

Focused On 80/20

A central principle to who we are and what we do. Particularly relevant for new students we want to ensure they maximize efforts by focusing on what will give the best results (the 80/20 principle). So if a particular student’s objective is to improve speaking skills, we’ll ensure their learning plan reflects this and they get lots of speaking practice.

Flexibility

We are predominantly focussed on online learning, which offers the ultimate flexibility. All our tutors are well versed and trained on teaching online. But we also offer a greater level of flexibility by offering students the chance to immerse themselves in an Arab country and study here in Egypt. A learning plan can for example start online and then finish learning here physically in Egypt.

Affordable Pricing

Our passion is in helping students learn the Arabic language in the most optimal way. This guides us in setting fair and affordable pricing for our students – feel free to compare us with other providers and you’ll find that we are reasonable priced.

Support & Mentorship

A tutor is great in providing a valuable lesson based on a curriculum and generally ensuring the improvement in a students language proficiency. But outside this, there is a need for further support and we provide this by allocating each student a mentor.

Pricing

One of our core values is in offering affordable pricing which allows a good rate for our qualified tutors. The actual pricing may depend on the type of learning (group/1-to-1) and number of hours per month. As a general guide, group sessions are approx. $4 per hour and 1-on-1 private lessons $7 per hour.
